US News & World Report released its rankings of the top high schools in America, and a KIPP Colorado school once again earned top honors. KIPP Denver Collegiate High School (KDCHS) was named the top high school in Denver and the second best high school in the state of Colorado by the national magazine.

The rankings, released on Wednesday, cited the high number of students who have taken and passed Advanced Placement (AP) exams and the school’s strong position in the magazine’s “College Readiness Index.”

Anna Mendez-Hickman, principal at KDCHS, says the rankings reflect the school’s emphasis on providing students access to AP exams, which can be used for college credit.

“Our teachers and students show up each day to prove what’s possible in public education,” she said. “I’m incredibly proud, though not surprised, that our students’ efforts have earned KIPP Denver Collegiate High School this national recognition.”

KIPP Colorado Schools chief executive officer, Kimberlee Sia, attributes the school’s ranking to the emphasis that KIPP Colorado Schools places on college and career readiness.

“Success on AP exams means students not only enter college more prepared for the academic rigors they will face, they also gain college credit that can help make college more affordable,” said Sia. “When you combine our students’ academic readiness and character strengths with the support of our KIPP Through College team, it’s no wonder our alumni are graduating college at rates well above their peers from similar backgrounds.”

This is the fourth consecutive year that KIPP Denver Collegiate High School has been named in the state’s top ten best high schools. It is the second time in the last three years it has been named best in Denver and second best in the state.

KIPP Northeast Denver Leadership Academy was also recognized in the rankings, earning a “nationally recognized” label from the magazine.
